Being present and mindful

Stay Present for Yourself – 5 Ways To Enjoy the NOW

We are so lost in the chaos, in the day, in the night, in the past, in the future, in the stress, in the overthinking, in the troubles, in the expectations and in everything,

except the NOW.

Why?

I’m not asking the reason.

I mean what for?

What is the purpose and use?

Years pass by when we live in our daily routine. The same usual life. We go with how life takes us. We become accustomed to it. We don’t question with it.

On the other hand, being present is all about savoring the happening, being wide awake to the current events of life, eyes open to give and receive consciously, and being mindful of our thoughts, both while acting upon them and while choosing them.

It’s a true gift to yourself. Your existence.

But how do we practice it?

How do we stay present when the world takes you round and round?

In this blog, I’ll teach you how to stay awake and present, learn the art of enjoying life.

What it means to “stay present”?

Most of the time, I found myself preoccupied with useless thoughts, anticipating what will happen, what am I going to eat, what tasks I have to do when I reach home, what is my calorie count today, when should I take walks, what are my office tasks when I’m having so much all at once.

This is natural of course. I had let the brain run me. No one is taught or naturally bound to stay present. The mind will definitely go with the flow.

But here you come, and it is your responsibility to shift it in the direction you want. It’s about how much you can direct your life.

It boils down to you.

So, staying present or rather staying fully present means your complete mind, body, and soul’s attention and devotion towards one thing. Nothing more, nothing less. It is the letting go of everything except the present moment.

For example, I’m writing this blog for you. I put all efforts to cover this blog with all the aspects. My mind is thinking about the thoughts to write here, my body is typing those words, and my soul is awake because I’m doing what I’m called to.

Imagine you are talking to the person you love the most. Don’t you think you are fully engaged in what they are saying, what you both are doing?

You are enjoying each moment with them. This means that you are present.

Imagine yourself reading a book. That’s the same presence I’m talking about. The mindfulness, the focus, the presence, and the concentration, it all means that you are in the moment, fully immersed. That’s how you can stop overthinking and live life.

Why can’t you stay present?

To understand why you can’t stay present when you want to,

First understand what is stopping you.

There can be reasons like,

  1. Preoccupied subconscious fear- You think about a particular outcome that you don’t want to happen or you think you won’t be able to achieve a set scenario in your mind or a target, much of the stress comes from. It can be a recent problem or something that you are subconsciously holding. Understand what are pain points? Become present and mindful about the root cause.
  2. Past deeds and future tasks- This goes without saying. What you did in the past, it’s done. We think that ruminating about it or thinking what we could do will not change the done deed. What you can do is, not repeat the same thing again and learn from the deed. Continue doing the best and learn from what could have been done good. Those are in the past.
  3. On the other hand, thinking about what good you will do is great, but thinking too much about the future is also not the balancing situation. Don’t do extreme things. Whether its past or future. When you get caught in this, the present situation is left out. The NOW is not properly channelized for your own good. So why waste time? The NOW is very powerful. It has the power to better the past and set the good stand for the future. So, choose wisely.
  4. Overthinking and stress- This is the result of the above point. When things/situations/relationships don’t go the way we want, overthinking and stress can take place. Such things make a human shrink, not helping in becoming the true potential self. These things make you feel stuck.

Not how to unstuck?

How to stay present and mindful?

It’s a conscious choice. It’s in your hands to change your life.

Whatever it is, stress or distraction, its up to you.

  1. After recognizing the root cause, take a book and spot how many times in the day you are not living in the present moment. Write how many times you took got lost in your thoughts and what were those thoughts all about.
  2. Do the internal work- If those thoughts are fearful, understand why you fear them, where its coming from.
  3. Allow yourself to take it one day at a time. Focus on what you have in front of you. When you do that, you make mindful decisions and you are wide awake to the reality. You shape your reality instead of getting dragged in it.
  4. All the stress goes away when we are present and fully living the moment. Have you ever noticed it? All thoughts, all tension, just go away. So what is stopping us from enjoying your life?
  5. Do things slowly- If its a chore, a walk, work or apply skincare, start doing things slowly. Once you do so, you will see that your focus is automatically getting still and becoming one with the reality. Doing things fast will only mean brushing the present moment aside and not living the journey fully. So start small, start slow.
