Gratitude is THE BEST Attitude- How to Practice Gratitude for an Abundant Life?

After leaving an ever-tiring office day, I was on the sideways looking for transport.

One glance away, I saw a frail, overly-back curved lady. She was seated on her wrecked flip-flop with a bag, stick, and a container for the silvers to drop.

That glance was all that I offered then. Moving ahead, I crossed the Mumbai floods of traffic, and I came across another string of jhuggis.

My eyes got locked as those drowned in dirt kids played with their loyal street cats,

Men and women chattered and,

Some simply sat to watch the world like me.

Looking past, I wondered,

How do they survive?

How that old woman had little or no means to live a sustainable life?

And there I was, counting all the things I had.

What I understood was,

Life didn’t give everything to everyone, but gave enough to be GRATEFUL.

After that moment, I have always kept the attitude of gratitude in my heart.

In every moment,

In every blessing,

And, in every turbulence.

This quotation, “My cup runneth over.” from the Hebrew Bible means,

I have more than enough for my needs.

Now, can you visualize your life like that old lady? What do you see? Write those points down.

After writing, can you visualize yourself at the stage of life you are in?

Yes. There you are.

This is the point where we realize that despite all the miseries, problems, unlucky days and lost opportunities, you and I still have the choice to redirect our mind towards joy, blessings and gratitude.

The idea that you and I

  • Have this device to learn the encyclopedia of the world
  • The magical wires to connect with the whole world
  • The basic necessities that we didn’t have to struggle for
  • And, the human body that can make every impossible possible.

So now how to practically practice GRATITUDE in your day-to-day life?

  1. Before starting the day, start the night.

Many people suggest that the morning is the best time to channel our energy to “feel” that gratitude.

But, I suggest that, before going to sleep, say all the things you are grateful for.

What do I say?

  1. Thank you, God, for all the success and happiness in my life,
  2. Thank you for my mom, the amazing food she cooks and feeds us, thanks for my dad, thanks for my sister who loves me so much
  3. Thank you for giving us money to sustain a good quality life
  4. Thank you for always protecting me and guiding me.

This way, you magnetize all the good things in life.

Now remember.

Sometimes it can happen that we be grateful because they want more and more. But this feeling is coming from having the “more” instead of actually being thankful for what you already have.

So, let’s not be on the quest to have more and more.

Let’s be thankful for what it is.

Because if you be grateful of what you have, naturally you will attract more of it.

  • Get up in the morning and count the 3

When you wake up in the morning and carry out your power-packed and peaceful routine, see what you are grateful for that’s helping you have this routine.

(Check out my blog on 11 Habits to Nourish Your Mind, Body & Soul http://thealphabest.com/11-habits-that-nourish-your-mind-body-and-soul/)

See it, feel it from within and be so happy because many people work hard for what you already have.

For example, whenever you eat something, thank God for that meal. Thank God that you are alive and sane with the food that was blessed for you to eat.

  • Don’t make it a routine, make it a lifestyle.

You don’t have to sit with a fancy journal and pen to practice gratitude. Whether you have a meal, you get a gift, you earn good money or you go for a travel experience, always say,

Thank you for this (describe what you have or experienced)

Once you keep doing this every hour or every day, you mind will be wired to feel grateful. You will automatically and involuntarily see your body feeling that gratitude. It’s like it’ll be a ritual.

  • Get closer to God.

This might change the direction of this blog but, this very well aligns with God. Gratitude is all about acknowledging what God has given you.

  • The place you were born,
  • The family & friends you were gifted,
  • The experiences you shared
  • And the success you have achieved or you are in the process of achieving,

All were planned for you for a reason.

Even if things fall apart, they happen to redirect you or get you closer to your goal.

It’s difficult, but it’s worth it.

Trust me.

So, I hope you learned something from this blog.

See you next time.
